Getting Listed on Google

Adding a web site to Google's ever-expanding database is one of the best online marketing strategies available.  Google's search is used more than any other search engine, which means any web site listed on Google will likely be seen by a large crowd if it's on the first two pages of any search result.

There are two ways to get a URL to Google so a web site appears in search results. It is important to realize it could take many weeks, sometimes 8 weeks or longer, before a web site gets listed.  This goes with any search engine or directory.  The length of time needed before aweb site is included depends on the current backload of links requesting the same service.  All web sites will start at the bottom of the list when they are first included in Google or other search engines. Web masters must work their way up the ladder to get to the top where the real traffic is.   Adding a web site to Google is easy, it just might take some time.  Be patient. If you are in a hurry, read about Google AdWords. AdWords is a Google program to get your web site found by web visitors immediately, not later.

Web sites should only be submitted to Google or other search engines after the web site is completed and optimized.  Adding a web site before it is ready may have negative affects on your placement.

Add URL To Google's Web Page

The first of two methods to get a web site listed on Google is to manually add a URL and site content to their web-based form on their web site. You can get their by clicking on http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl . Using this form does not mean your site is guaranteed to be indexed or even looked at.

When typing in a URL, be sure type the prefix http://www. when applicable.  Google needs a full URL in order to find the site.

The comments section is optional as it doesn't affect where a web site will be listed when the related keywords are searched.  You may add comments regarding your web site or add some of your web site's keywords.  This is an optional field.

You need to type in the image code correctly for the submission to go through.  Google does this as a preventive measure to prevent some web bots from submitting data automatically. Google prefers users to manually enter their site information.

When adding a web site to Google's Add URL, you only need to do it once and to the very first page of the web site.  Submitting a web site that is already listed will not increase your Google PageRank (PR).  When Google's web bot comes through your web site, it will parse every link on your domain that it can find and will add them to the database as well. If you don't want Google to index your other pages (or a few specific pages), you can control the web bots by creating a robots.txt file or using meta tag information as shown in the advanced section.

Once a web site is listed with Google, Google's web bot will come through the page periodically and search for updated content. There is no need to use this Google Add URL form if your web site is already indexed by Google.

Getting A Site Indexed By Links

The second method to get a web site indexed by Google is preferred by many web masters.  When Google's web bots crawl through other people's web sites, they pull up every available link there is.  Whether it's a link to one of their sub pages or a link to someone else's web site entirely. When Google finds a link, they'll keep it.

To get a web site indexed by Google without using the web form as described above, you can build your web site's link popularity.  Your link popularity is the number of other people's web sites linking to yours.  Each web page across your web site may have a different link popularity (also referred to as LP or link pop) but it is generally better to get your index or main page the highest number of inbound links.

There are many ways to increase your link popularity.  You can ask web masters to host your link, you can get your friends and family members to add your link to their web site, or you can even add your URL to your signature on message boards you frequent. Eventually your web site link will be found and indexed . This method generally happens more quickly than manually adding your information to the Google Add URL form.

In terms of getting your web site listed by inbound links, it doesn't matter what type of site links to yours.  If you want to increase your page rank (PR), you should focus on links from related web sites and links from web sites that have a page rank of 4 (PR4) or higher.
